Microsoft Vista
Vista is Microsoft's new Windows operating system. Most PC's that are sold after December, 2006, will have this system installed. Vista offers many advantages over previous versions of Windows, particularly in the area of security. It is hoped that it will be extremely difficult for rogue programs, viruses, and spyware to take control of a computer, delete data, or cause other damage.
WebBuild Password Security has been configured to run under Vista and extensively tested in beta versions of the new operating system. We are confident that it will run reliably and securely under Vista, provided that users upgrade to WBPS version 1.1.3 or later. (For instructions how to upgrade WebBuild Password Security to the most current version, please click here).
There are some differences between how WBPS runs under Vista and how it functioned under earlier operating systems. When you launch WebBuild Password Security in Vista, you will see the following screen:
This is a security feature in Vista that prevents most programs from obtaining access to certain core Windows resources. You should only click "Allow" if you are certain that the program you are running is safe and does not present a security threat to your computer. WebBuild Password Security must access folders under the PC's "Program Files" folder to store and retrieve data and to create the files that are to be published to the Web site. Under Vista this requires that a user run the program as an "Administrator". When a user attempts to run a program as an Administrator, the screen shown above will appear.
Clicking the "Allow" option will enable WebBuild Password Security to access the data and files it needs and to run as designed.
